So, last night we went to upper state competition. We were DEAD LAST! That is THE best spot you could have to perform. The stands were packed on both sides. People were cheering for us and individual band members. I even heard a few of our allies cheering for us in the stands.
Anyway, we got on the field and we looked GREAT! We then started the show and everything fell into place. This was by far our best run! Our D.M. was flabbergasted. She couldn't speak in complete sentences for almost an hour.
Then, at awards, everyone was biting their lips and shivering, not from the cold, but from excitement. Everytime the announcer would begin to announce a band whose first letter was the same as ours, we would get scared, then when we would hear it wasn't us, we would let out a sigh of relief.
Get this, no one took home a superior. Everyone, except for two bands took home excellent. We walked out with fifteenth out of twenty! We improved three whole points and places from just last year! Do you know how hard that is to do in Marching Band?! DO YOU?! I was ecstatic!
However, I really wish people wouldn't cry over our spot. I know how it feels to be upset, but this was nothing to be upset over. This was a grand victory for us! We honestly couldn't have done much better. We were packed into a 3A competition, and we're a 1AA band, I think... anyway, we may not have made it into the top six that are going to state, but we are in good company. Quite a few other bands who are VERY good aren't going either. We also scored around the same as them too. I'm not upset. I'm as happy as one could hearing this news!
